Chad Harris to be at Region 2 Meeting!
One of the nation's best know hybridizers of Japanese Iris and Pseudata Iris among other varieties will be in Rochester on October 21, 2017 for the Region 2 annual meeting. He will be giving a talk on "Water Lovers of Asia" a look at Iris ensata, Iris laevigata, and the new Species-X, "Pseudata" and will also offer Judges Training session for Iris Ensata (Japanese).

A Tale of Two Seasons
Here are two pictures that tell a tale:
This is the very same clump of Iris Reticulata in the same garden. The bloom this year is two and half weeks earlier. Projecting that forward and barring a surprise bitter cold snap, I have some planning to do! When friends ask, when is your Iris bloom party, I usually say, the first weekend in June. This year maybe the 2nd or 3rd weekend in May is a better bet.

PROGRAM: AIS Convention Report
Join us September 13 at 2 PM for our regular meeting including a presentation by Neil Houghton. Neil attended the 2015 AIS Convention in Portland. The presentation will include an outline of the experience and photos from Schreiner's, Mid-America, Keith Keppel, Aitken's Salmon Creek, Miller Manor, and some beautiful Oregon sightseeing.
The 2016 Convention will be in Newark, NJ, a five hour drive from Rochester. Hopefully many GRIS members will attend. It's a convention like few others. This discussion will let you know what to expect and hopefully encourage your participation.
